My Life As An Ex-Hamster

Are you caught in the Hamster Wheel? - Maybe a little short of breath?

I dare you.

I dare you to STOP.

Take a look at your life a bit from the outside in. Is it the way you really want it to be? Was this what you dreamt of? Is this what you dream of?

Life in general has become very complex, and as the scope becomes broader, we go faster and faster. Often we do not fully understand where we’re going or why we are going there. We are just going. But going faster in the same direction does not improve our direction, it merely gets us further down that road, just faster (While we are looking forward to 2 weeks holiday in 3 months….).

Many of us tend to just go down that road, because we feel that is what the world around us seems to be expecting from us, right?

Really…?

Is this what your children desire most of you?

Is this what your spouse is hoping for tonight?

Is this what your parents are hoping to hear when you rush a quick call to them from the car?

Is this how you really desire it to be?

If not, it is time for some adjustment.

5 years ago, I (finally) reached the conclusion that it was time to leave Big Corporate and to re-join my children, my dog and myself in living the life that is right for US. I decided follow another direction.

A typical morning at the Koksbangs:

I cook a full breakfast for my children, typically music is playing in the background. I prepare their homemade lunch pack (I am proud that they say it is the best in school…). When they are ready we have breakfast together, discuss the day ahead and they give me a hug as they leave for school.

Then MY morning starts with the (hardcopy!) newspaper and coffee for 20 minutes, as I am charging myself for my work day. Most of my work days are done from home, or from where I may choose. I truly enjoy the freedom and flexibility in that.

I have never looked back. I have never regretted it.

Every day I cherish my decision and my new life. And so does my family.

Okay, I think my life back then needed quite a bit of adjustment. Maybe yours require less adjustment to achieve lasting significant improvement. The decision to make that adjustment of direction can nevertheless be amazingly hard.

Support and guidance in making this decision can be very helpful.

Want to hop off your hamster wheel? Then let's talk.
